Amita Tuti

Community Correspondent, Jharkhand

Amita was born and raised in Sepagara, Jharkhand. Her first experience with activism came when she was involved in the Jungle Bachao protest movement. Soon after, she joined Video Volunteers as a Community Correspondent: "I never imagined I would learn to take photographs, but after joining the protest movement I started to become interested in photography."

The Project:
Amita's work started out looking at the life of a woman who had been branded a witch by her community. But through photographing the story, she began to look more widely at the topic of superstition. This ongoing body of work looks at superstition in the area of eastern India where Amita lives.
